For the first time in 87 years, the Yankees will face the Red Sox and the Dodgers will face the Giants in their season openers on the same day. On April 13, 1926, the Yankees defeated the Red Sox, 12-11, at Fenway Park as Babe Ruth went 3-for-6 with a pair of doubles. That same day, the Brooklyn Dodgers topped the New York Giants, 3-0, at the Polo Grounds behind a one-hitter by Jess Petty. Frankie Frisch managed the Giants’ only hit, a bloop double to right field in the sixth inning.
